HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE
The voter guides describe the positions of Rhode Island candidates running for U.S. Congress, RI State Offices, RI State Senator, and RI State Representative.
Planned Parenthood VOTES! Rhode Island (VOTES!) has a state PAC; VOTES! does not have a federal PAC and therefore cannot endorse in federal races.  Planned Parenthood Federation of American in Washington, D.C. has a federal PAC called the Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF).  PPAF has endorsed in the RI races for federal office.  Please call Anne at 401-421-7820 x 3113 with questions.
Prior to voting, please confirm your district and polling location at www.state.ri.us/vic/
Not every candidate filled out the VOTES! questionnaire. Some have a policy of not responding to any survey, others chose not to.  If you do not see your candidate listed in either the Primary or General Election Voter Guide, you may find candidates who do not respond listed separately with their contact information in the 2006 Priamary Voter Guide so that you can contact them directly about their views on reproductive rights.
Additional copies of this voters' guide are available. Please call Gisella at 401-421-7820 x 3114 for more information or questions about your candidates and the election.

Don't know who your legislators are?
You can look it up at www.state.ri.us/vic/ or call Gisella at 421-7820 ext. 3114.

Planned Parenthood VOTES! Rhode Island

is an independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization formed as the political arm of Planned Parenthood of Rhode Island. VOTES! engages in educational and electoral activity including public education campaigns, grassroots organizing, and legislative advocacy.

Candidates often do not give voters the information they need to make important election decisions and many anti-choice candidates try to hide their true agenda until after the election. To combat this, VOTES! surveys all statewide candidates running for office during each election cycle, which is every two years. We ask them a variety of questions pertaining to reproductive heath care in an attempt to provide information to voters in Rhode Island. We publish returned questionnaires in a primary voter guide and again in a general election voter guide.

The mission of the VOTES! is:

  • to encourage and protect informed individual choice regarding reproductive health care;
  • to advocated public policies which guarantee the right to choice and full and non-discriminatory access to health care; and
  • to foster and preserve a social and political climate favorable to the exercise of reproductive choice.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE between PPRI and VOTES! ?

Planned Parenthood of Rhode Island (PPRI) is a c3 organization and Planned Parenthood VOTES! Rhode Island is a c4 organization; they are two separate organizations, each with their own tax status. They must raise funds independently to support their work for reproductive health.

PPRI’s mission is to provide, promote, and protect access to reproductive health care and sexuality education so that people can make voluntary choices about their reproductive and sexual health.
Donations to PPRI are tax-deductible.

VOTES! mission is to encourage and protect informed individual choice regarding reproductive health care, to foster and preserve a social and political climate favorable to the exercise of reproductive choice, and to advocate for and educate about issues related to Planned Parenthood, to elect candidates that support pro-choice, pro-family planning policies, and to conduct grassroots lobbying and advocacy efforts.
Donations to VOTES! are not tax-deductible.
