Why a Teen Health Center?

The Teen Health Center was established by Planned Parenthood of Rhode Island (PPRI) in 1997 to:

  • Address the high unintended pregnancy rate in Rhode Island
  • Provide medically accurate sexuality education
  • Offer affordable and confidential reproductive health care in a teen friendly environment to young adults 13-22 years old

Who Staffs the Teen Health Center?

Our unique and multi-cultural Teen Health Center Team includes:

  • Physicians
  • Nurse Practicioner
  • Medical Assistants
  • Professional Educators
  • Youth Peer Educators

How Do Teens Pay for Teen Health Center Medical Services?

PPRI accepts most insurance plans, including:

  • Blue Cross
  • United Healthcare
  • Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island
  • RIte Care
  • Cash or Credit Cards

The Teen Health Center is a Title X Program with limited funds.

What Medical Services are Offered at the Teen Health Center?

Confidential services are offered in a teen friendly environment and include:

  • Routine Gynecological (GYN) Care
  • Birth Control/Contraceptive Services
  • Emergency Contraception (EC)
  • Pregnancy Testing and Counseling
  • Screening & Treatment for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
  • HIV Testing and Counseling
  • Limited Male Services

What Educational Services are Offered at the Teen Health Center?

The education staff offers workshops on various topics including:

  • Abstinence and healthy decision making
  • Prevention of unintended pregnancies and STIs
  • The female and male reproductive systems
  • Safer sex practices and contraceptive methods
  • Self-esteem, healthy relationships, communication and negotiation skills

Workshops for parents and professionals working with teens are also available.
